Cricut Lyrical Letters You're The Best card with cut files

I made this welded frame, bird and "You're the Best" design in the Cricut Design Studio since I thought it would make a handy front for a card. All the pieces are from the Lyrical Letters cartridge. The card I made is actually 6x6 but you could get away with 5x5 or even 5.5x5.5, if you prefer. I would probably give this to someone by hand, rather than mailing, since square cards are more expensive to mail. Another choice is to make a rectangular envelope instead to save on postage. I am not normally too concerned with postage but a square card is almost TWICE the price to mail.

I used My Minds Eye papers - love that they are two sided and coordinating. I inked the edges to distress it even more. Then, I pop dotted the front from the base. All in all, though, a very simple card.

I made the cut file in two sizes, for Baby Bug/Create owners and then for Expression owners.

New Cricut Video Shows Mix and Match Button

I wanted to make a video showing how to use the Mix & Match button, but not use it with fonts. Why? Just to be difficult. No, just kidding. Because I thought it would be neat to see if you could. I decided to make the card above using Lyrical Letters (LL). Now, I know LL is a font cartridge but it's got tons of goodies in the back of the booklet, like all kinds of word art appropriate for card making! So, I figured out a way to use that Mix & Match button to make it work.

I also thought I should show an EASY way to glitter an intricate die cut using the Xyron machine. WOW! So much easier than the Zig 2-way glue pen. I spent close to an hour fiddling with that glue pen the other day as I glittered the swirly guitar on the Hannah Montana layout and it about drove me crazy. The Xyron is incredibly tacky, even if you make a little mistake along the way. See the video for the "oops" and then see how it all turns out.

Lyrical Letters Tips and Hidden Gems

So, have you run out and gotten the Lyrical Letters Cricut cartridge yet? Michael's has them on sale this week for $39.99 and if your store doesn't have it, you can pick up a rain check for it. The great thing about this cartridge is that it has SEVEN fonts on it. SEVEN! Below, you can see the same word cut at 2" for the seven different fonts. Of course, you can see the HUGE difference in size between the different fonts. This should be factored in when planning your titles because the variation is so great. It's not clear to me why that has happened - I guess it's like the variation in font sizing in a document. Anyway, be aware of the difference!





Some other wonderful things on this cartridge are the many, many cute phrases. Since it is so hard to see what the cuts look like from the back of the box and even in the booklet, I decided to cut some of them out. Below you can see a sampling. Forgive the fact that I lost all the dots for the "i's" - I'm bad with those. The cart has so many fun and useful phrases but again, watch out for the skinnier, smaller fonts because they aren't quite so easy to cut out properly. I hope this helps you when you are working with the cartridge!

You can purchase them HERE for $110.00 for both, with shipping beginning in March. Or $58.99 for each. I can't tell if these are full size carts or not but price points would make me think that they are. I have never ordered from this site myself.
