Make a Cute 5 Minute Gift Bag!

You all know I love a gift bag project, right?

Well, yesterday morning at 8 am, my daughter comes over to me and says she needs a gift bag for her friend Emily and can I make her one before we leave for school.  WHAT?  In her defense, she mentioned it the night before but I forgot.  Oops.

Of course, I jumped at the challenge, wanting to make her happy and secretly thinking this would make a good blog project. Add in the "need to rush to school" and that's how the 5 minute gift bag was born.

Minutes 1-3: Decide on paper and cartridge.  I used the Cricut Storybook cartridge and some paper from Echo Park.

Minutes 4-5: Cut "E" regular and shadow at 5-1/2" using the Storybook Cricut cartridge.  While it's cutting, cut background paper and adhere to bag.  Tie bow and adhere with glue dot.  Search for matching tissue.  Put "E" on bag.

Minute 6: Rush and photo bag for blog.

DONE!
I got some questions yesterday about vinyl and yesterday's post -  here are the answers:

1) Where did you get your vinyl?
My vinyl is from the Cricut site HERE and the Cricut brand is made by Oracel (#631) which is typically rated for indoor use only. My experience is that it is extremely hardy and has lasted perfectly on my car and on my vinyl cups that I wash in the dishwasher.

2) How do you layer vinyl?
Here's a video where I layered vinyl (click HERE if you can't see it).  It's the first video I ever made so be kind...LOL!

3) What Cricut cartridges have a mustache on them?
Cricut 3 Birds on Parade, Artiste, Billionaire, Cricut Decals, Funny Faces, Paper Doll Dress Up, Summer Celebrations, Mustaches and Glasses (digital).

4) How do you wash the straws for the cups so they aren't icky?
I just put those in the dishwasher but I never put milk in the glasses - just soda or water so it rinses out easily.

Here's a new contest:
From now until June 6, you can access the new Cricut Chalkboard Fonts cartridge for FREE in the Cricut Craft Room.

Provo Craft is also hosting a Pinterest Contest around this new Cricut Chalkboard Fonts cartridge (on sale soon).  Click HERE and HERE to find out more about the contest.

Dollar Tree Crafting Finds!

Here are some fun Dollar Tree crafting finds -  remember that everything only costs $1!

Mostly found on this trip to Dollar Tree were many variations of the plastic "to go" cups.  I chose the large cups on the bottom to make teacher gifts - I like the stretchy straws in them.  I'm planning on personalizing them with layered vinyl (future post will have details).  Then I will put their gift cards inside.
These cups below would be great for smaller kids since they've got the lanyard string.
Plastic bowls would be fun also to vinyl for pool parties or you could vinyl the bowl and make it into the base of a gift basket.
These plastic boxes on the left could be used for lunchbox/food storage or school supplies and would also be super cute with vinyl on them.  The heavy glass beer mugs on the right look amazing when you use glass etching on them!

The glasses below could be either vinyled or etched for a wedding party, gift or just your own home use.
More variations below on the plastic "to go" cups in different sizes and configurations.

I love these sports themed cups for a birthday party, end of season sports party or for a coach!
Here are some plastic coffee mugs also that could be decorated!

More glass to etch and some very inexpensive grosgrain and satin ribbon in various colors (on the right).  Mirrors and frames on the left.

Don't forget that Dollar Tree is an excellent place to get styrofoam and floral foam - WAY cheaper than Joanns and Michaels.
Mini clipboards are fun to decorate with Mod Podge and paper - would be a fun craft for Girl Scouts or a slumber party.
Decorating the composition books is another fun craft using patterned paper and Mod Podge.  Finally, on the right, there's plenty of glue sticks, glitter, glitter glue and craft/popsicle sticks for other crafty fun!

I hope you found some good ideas from this post!  There are plenty of fun, inexpensive craft finds at Dollar Tree.

Do you shop at Dollar Tree? Does this post inspire a project from any of these items?

For those of you wondering what I meant about decorating the cups with vinyl, see the photo below.  I made those using Cricut vinyl.  I have had them for 2 years, washed them in the dishwasher (cause who has time for hand washing) and they look just the same.  So the vinyl really does hold up.

Are you the sharpest tool in the shed?

Back in my construction management days at Mobil Oil, we had a saying that went "He's not the sharpest tool in the shed..." when referring to a contractor we didn't like.  Needless to say, when I saw this saying on the Scrappy Moms "For the Boys" stamp set, I was hooked!

The perfect sentiment for the smart men in your life - combine the sentiment with the tool box from the Cricut Father's Day cartridge and it's a match made in heaven.
Tool box was cut at 2" - card is 4-1/4" x "5-1/2".

Check out this cool manly stamp set from Scrappy Moms called "For the Boys":
I have some more manly cards coming up using this set - isn't it versatile?  LOVE IT!
