Cricut Summer Celebrations 4th of July Flag Card

I recently saw this furled flag on the Cricut Summer Celebrations cartridge and wondered why I had never cut it. I can't believe the great things on this cartridge!
The card is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" and the flag was cut at 2-1/2".  Now, this flag is actually a shaped card - I went ahead and cut it once in red, once in white and then cut it up to make just the flag portion.  See below:

I did this because I really wanted to use the red paper straw as the flag pole.  I got the package of red paper straws in the Michaels' "used to be $1" spot.

I used some Trendy Twine in red and blue to make a pom pom for the top of the flag pole. Glue dots were essential in adhering the furled flag to the straw and also the pom pom to the top.  Pop dots on the flag itself kept it at a height consistent with the straw.
Here is the new Stamp of the Month for June - it coordinates with the Close to My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge and is so cute for the upcoming Fourth of July!

It's just $5 when you spend $50+ at my Close to My Heart shopping page.

  1. Cute card. I've never looked at the shaped cards on that cart.

Fireworks bother my sinuses and my dog is terrified, so we stay home and watch on tv.

  4. Love the card! I don't go to the fireworks displays any more due to my disabilities. I can't get around as easily as I used to and it scares me to go to big events with large crowds. I always watch the 4th of July shows on TV instead! Thanks!

  5. Such a cute card!!! I'm lucky ~ I just have to stand in my driveway to see the 4th of July Fireworks show in my town! I like to watch the fireworks and listen to the Boston Pops on TV on the 4th of July, too!
Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  6. I love fireworks. I am limited to watching them on T.V. I have mobility problems and fireworks displays generally mean a good deal of walking and sitting on the ground.

  8. Very cute. I like the twine pom pom. We can usually see them from our backyard and therefore don't have to fight the crowds.

  14. Your card is really beautiful. I have that cartridge but have hardly used it, guess I'll have to check it out again. We can actually see the fireworks in our town if we sit out on the front sidewalk. Getting harder to see them every year because there are huge palm trees that have grown so tall they block our view of the lower ones. We decided this year we will drive over to the high school to watch the whole show.

  15. Hi Joy - sometimes we go see fireworks, sometimes not. Usually we go NEAR the display without going to the actual venue so we can avoid the traffic! I LOVE that flag card and love that straw! Happy 4th to you!

  19. Love the straw flagpole - great cut, great card for the 4th!
We haven't watched fireworks for the last couple of years - just too much traffic getting to/from local shows. Up until last year, though, we did set off small fireworks in our street - gotta love sparklers!

  20. I don't send 4th of July cards, but if I did, this would be a super cute card to make. We usually go to see fireworks on the 4th. Not sure about his year, though, as we will be visiting friends in Chicago. I guess we'll do whatever they like to do.

We usually go see fireworks, but I'll be glad when the kids are all finally grown so I can stay home. I hate the terrible traffic jams!

  30. I just love that furled flag card. What dimension. Our park district holds the fireworks display on the golf course right behind our house. It's been great while it lasted, but our house is for sale so this will be our last year of fireworks in our backyard.
