Once I got the settings figured out for such a detailed cut, it cut like butter.
What are those settings? It's simple! Just set the dial in between light cardstock and iron-on vinyl (see below) and then cut twice. Perfect!
For the other Cricut machines, the best way to cut detailed cuts like this is to slow your speed to 2 or 3, blade at 3, pressure at 3 and then multi-cut two times (and a prayer helps).
Here are the cuts from the Close to My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge:

Beautiful card & love the cuts with the Explore! I thought all day about my favorite President and I decided to go witih President Reagan...I didn't believe he could lead the country, after all, he was "just an actor", RIGHT? But he brought the nation together as one and offered HOPE & PROSPERITY to all of us! We need that so much again that I have decided to honor him on this Presidents Day! I have so many favorites, but today is HIS DAY.
ReplyDeleteJames Madison. He was the 5th president. I have read a lot about his time in office. His Vice President was Elbridge Gerry who was my many great grandfather. It was very cool to find out I was related to someone who signed the Declaration of Independence..James Madison was a Demecrat-Republican. You didn't have to chose parties back in those days.
ReplyDeleteLove the card.. I have this cartridge and never realized I could make something this beautiful. I have a brand new blade on my machine so hoping I can cut it out like butter in my old machine. :)
Beautiful card...might have to put the Explore on the Birthday wish list this year. Just got back from spending the day at the Ronald Reagan library -- what an amazing man and president!
ReplyDeleteQuestion about your settings that you used on this card Why is it necessary to multicut this image? With the new blade won't it cut precisely the first time through? Would you also explain the need to change to a setting other than cardstock? Expecting my Explore next week, thanks for your tips! Regan was elected when I was a kid so he remains a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteThese are good questions that I have no answer to except - after trial and error, this worked...LOL! And since it took some trial and error, I wanted others to be able to do it right the first time. I also did multi cut because it usually takes less pressure and blade to cut through iron on vinyl so it seemed likely that I would need to multicut.
DeleteMy favorite president is JFK. He and his family have been responsible for so many philanthropic causes. Interestingly, even though it was a time when our country was actively fighting communism and foreign political affairs were forefront, it was also a time in our country when we were a bit more innocent. I miss the innocence...
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite animal. There are too many to choose from. I love the all images on Create a Critter 1 and 2.
ReplyDeleteRoxanne D. from NC
One of the great Pesident was Geroge Washington how these men began a country and built the US up.Anne D. from Chauvin LA

ReplyDeleteMy favorite president would be Franklin D. Roosevelt. He overcame his own physical handicaps to lead our country through WWII and had to make so many difficult decisions not only on the war front but at home as well. Not to mention the decisions that brought the war to an end. I love the Butterfly card. I love your videos. Will look forward to seeing how the new machine works compared to my old trusty one. Thank you for all your videos. I am having fun making the layered cards. Everyone is amazed...and I give them your website info. Thank you for making it easier to use my Cricut. Robin the paper princess
My favorite president is Ronald Regan. Edwina Brown
ReplyDeleteI'm responding late; is there such thing as a favorite president? lol I'll say JFK--I was very young but it's one of those memories in history you don't forget. As to your card, it is beautiful, and the intricate cuts came out wonderfully. I'm curious why you had to cut it twice? If this machine is supposed to rival the Cameo and others that cut like butter, shouldn't it be able to do it with one cut?
