I had been wondering what the best way to store my Cuttlebug folders was and so I asked on my facebook page and got the suggestion to make up tags that have each been embossed with a folder and then number both the tag and the folder. That way it would be easy to really see how the different backgrounds will look on your cards and retrieval would be a cinch.. I wish I could find who suggested this because I think it's brilliant.
So, I got started by creating a file in the Cricut Craft Room using Plantin Schoolbook that cuts 12 tags on a 12" x 24" mat - they come out to be about 5" tall. I just used plain white paper. You could just do autofill if you want to use the cartridge alone. Then, I numbered the tags.
Then, I numbered the folders. I did these in groups of tens so I wouldn't mess up.
Then, I ran them through the Cuttlebug and stacked them upside down so they would stay in order.
Below is my Cuttlebug station. (Please excuse the poor lighting - I meant to do this earlier but we had tornado warnings and sirens and black, black clouds so I couldn't do it. We are just fine, though - relieved it's over!) The Cuttlebug has the cozie on it and on the shelf above I have two large clearish boxes. The pink one on the left is one of those "really useful boxes" from Staples. It is the size that fits business sized envelopes. On the right, I have all my dies.Below is a close up of the Cuttlebug box. I separate out all the Christmas folders so I don't have to keep going by them all year long. The glue in the front is primarily a way to prop up the folders.
Below, I like to store my small dies in ziploc bags by manufacturer. I also put those Tim Holtz Sizzix folders with their matching edges in a ziploc bag also.
Below is a side view of my messy die system. It is easy to thumb through these, though.
I started out with my favorite Cuttlebug folders since those would be at the front of the box. So, of course, Swiss Dots and Divine Swirl are the two first ones. I didn't group them much beyond that, though there is a bunch that are all animal skin type folders that I put together. So, here's the ring of tags and then a folder with it.
I labelled the top of the folder so I could quickly find things.
And here's the ring. I haven't finished yet so there may be a second ring. I love the Cuttlebug and their price point is so low (with a coupon, $3) that it's like a cheap thrill getting the folders. The folders add so much to a project, though!
Now, for a giveaway:
FOUR people will each win one of these Cricut Cuttables! This allows you to create your own custom Cuttlebug embossing folder. It's very easy to do.
How can you win?
1) Leave a comment below telling me what your favorite Cuttlebug folder is and/or how you store them.
2) Subscribe or follow the blog.
Winner will be announced on Monday, April 9, 2012. Winner has two weeks to claim prize. Allow four weeks for delivery.
Here are some of the questions I've gotten from yesterday's post about my craft room reorganization:
1) Where did you get your desk? Ikea. I measured my space and then figured out what pieces I needed to buy to get the U shape configuration. It took some thinking but I LOVE this desk!
2) Where did you get those pink and black containers that you put your paper in? I got those at Michaels. I don't think they have this pattern anymore but I do think they have other patterns. I got the biggest sizes when they were on sale.
3) Did you do this in one day? Ha ha - no! It took like 2 weeks.
4) What are the dimensions of the cabinet that holds the ribbon, stamps, etc. that's on the wall? 31.5" tall x 25.5" wide x 3.75" deep. I got mine at Michaels when they were 50% (they run this sale frequently). Click HERE to see the details. Their dimensions on the link seem different - you may want to go into the store to check. I measured mine, though.
5) What happened to the bookmark feature in Cricut Craft Room? I don't know - I will look into it.

My favorite folder is Tim's wood grain...and all my folders are just in a box right now
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cuttlebug folder is the Swiss Dots. How do I store it. Right now I store my folders in a little Thirty-one storage bag in my cabinet. :D
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I was actually the one who suggested it to you as I had saw someone else do it in an organization challenge that I did, I am so glad that you liked this idea and that it worked for you! Your room looks great I really wish that I could get mine finished!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I have to make a decision on which I like the most, ug. Well if I have to I like the one with all of the pinpoint dots. I store all of mine (for now) in a basket.
ReplyDeleteWoW! You have lots of fun cuttlebug folder! I write the names of the folders on the tops and keep them in a basket so I can easily flip through them. My favorite folder is seeing spots. Already a follower! TFS! abusybee24atcoxdotnet
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea! I love the idea of the tags!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks amazing!
I need to do the same thing in mine
Thanks for sharing
Susan
One of my favorite cuttlebug folder is the Textile folder!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your idea and to be honest I have no system they are all in a drawer and I have to go thru them all to find the one I want. Will be giving your way a go, thanks. My favorite folder is swiss dots!!
ReplyDeleteCindylu
I can't decide if I like swiss dots or divine swirls better. I have less than 10 folders right now, so they're just sitting on my shelf. I'd love to get more, but I have to fit them in my "play money" budget that's currently being spent on paper.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Cuttlebug Folder is D'Vine Swirls! I love the way you organize your folders. Right now I have them on a plastic box, because I only have a few of them, I recently purchased the Cuttlebug. I really love it!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to make cards with the embossing on them. My fav Cuttlebug embossing folder is Swiss Dots with D'vine Swirls being a close 2nd. I store my embossing folders in plastic Iris cases. Bought several of these plastic Iris cases during the day after Thanksgiving Day sale for $1 each.

Love the idea of creating a tag book to log your folders! I only have a handful of folders so they are stored in a little bin that I got from Target! Thanks so much for sharing all this great organizing info! Soaking it up!
ReplyDeleteWhat great idea. I love Swiss dots.
ReplyDeleteLove this system and I'm gonna copy it!!! My favorite folder is the Diamond Plate. I hope you have my calling card....it has the diamond plate background!
ReplyDeleteDivine swirls was my first and still my favorite. I only have like 6, so storage isn't a problem for now! Love seeing your craft space and how you are organizing. Thanks for the give away.
ReplyDeleteI always learn great things from your posts. I would love to have that many embossing folders! So cool. Right now I don't own any of the Cuttlebug folders (but I do own a Cuttlebug) but I really really want the Swiss Dots one. I have a few Sizzix folders but not many so storage isn't an issue.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love, love, love this idea. I keep mine thrown in two drawers and have to search every time I want one, not to mention can't remember which ones I have. I will put this to good use this week. Thanks
ReplyDeleteYour way makes much more sense than mine! I try to just keep them in order alphabetically and it just seems so time consuming. I'd have to say my favorite cuttlebug folder is Swiss Dots.
ReplyDeleteI so love the way you organized your folders. Such a wonderful idea. I will definitely keep this in mind when organizing my room. I have a ton I enjoy using but if I had to choose it would be the Birds and Swirls folder.
ReplyDeleteJess
My dies & embossing folders (all brands are currently (though not for much longer having seen your awesome idea)stashed in a couple of shoe boxes in no particular order, still in their packaging. I left them in the packaging so I see what the embossing looked like... but now I don't have to.
ReplyDeleteI store all my templates on a ring binder like this. Don't know why I didn't think of it for my embossing (and possibly die cut) samples. Sometimes we can't see the wood for the trees.
Thank you for the great idea... and the chance to win something as well - BONUS!!!
Swiss dots and D'Vine Swirls are my most go to and two favorite Cuttlebug embossing folders. I store my folders in media boxes. I have them labeled with their name using a label maker.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and I LOVE my embossing folders...all of them. I just wish I had about double what I actually have.
ReplyDeleteJust barely got a bug so I don't have a fave yet. Which do you use the very most? Well- at least I don't have storage worries yet, but I love your tag idea. Bet it was fun to create them too!
ReplyDeleteI love them, pick me pick me!!
ReplyDeleteI have a fraction of what you have! I love the Timeless set
ReplyDeleteI subscribed via facebook - could not find the option to follow via blogger

I love divine swirls. I tend to use that one the most.
ReplyDeleteLove how to store these! What a great idea...and I've been needing an idea.
Thank you for the passing on the idea to make tag samples of the Cuttlebug folders. I'm always looking for useful organization ideas.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea. right now my folders are sitting on top of a clear box that holds all the cb dies. I would like to get alot more embossing folders. One at a time... ;)
ReplyDeleteDawn RI

ReplyDeleteright now I don't have very many folders- but did buy some new ones I havent tried yrt- I am thim=nking my tim holtz brick wall and wood folders will be a new fav. Thanks for the win option, already a follower of yours Thanks Kymi-Vi
ReplyDeleteMy favorite embossing folder is very vintage wallpaper. I love the design. I have one desk drawer for all my embossing folders. It works out great. I have a divider in the drawer so I can keep my dies separate from my folders.
ReplyDeletelilmccoppin@yahoo.com
I store mine in fliptop file folders from walmart i love the number and tag idea and will be doing this while doing daycare for my mom. Thanks!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the first one I bought - Swiss Dots! I have them all in a drawer right now, as I don't have more then 20 at this point- but I'm hoping to find a better way to organize them soon! Thanks for the great post!
ReplyDeleteI love getting new cuttlebug folders and always make a sample with a 3inch by 3 inch piece of paper. I swipe a bit of ink across it to make the design pop then glue it to a page in my inventory book. I organize my folders in alpha order by the name of the folder, and my fav folders are swiss dots and divine swirls, although the fluer di lis is a close third, oh and the Stars folder - love that too!
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome system I think I will give it a try when I get a few more folders!
ReplyDeleteKaren dkolopez@msn.com
I don't own that many embossing folders so with the few I have I just store them in a plastic shoe box. Thank you for sharing your idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super ideal, yes I think I have a bit of work to do, since mine are all in a drawer, no order for sure! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love the Swiss Dots folder. I have tons of folders and they are very disorganized. I'm going to try your suggestions. Thanks for sharing this great idea.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea, my FAV is Swiss Dots, right now mine are in a baske,t but as my collection grows I want to do this tag idea! Thanks for the chance!

My favorite is divine swirls! I just love the idea of tags to organize, I have been trying to figure out a system forever. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteDW Paper Designs
Wow, what a great idea. I like the idea of having something visible before I do the actual embossing. I think my favorite folder is the perfect paisley. For now, I keep mine all together in a reusable bag, I'm hoping to find a better solution.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite folder is Swiss Dots. I also use the embossed tags, except instead of numbering I have a label with the name of the folder on it and a label with the name on the actual folder. I love having the tags, it saves so much time!
ReplyDeleteWow you have so many of them! I just started buying them. My favorite so far is the Rock Princess Companions. I love the girlie skulls : ) Hopefully soon I will need the numbering system as well.
ReplyDeleteI love swirls!
ReplyDeletein a box, but this system was very good:)
It's a wonderful idea. Unfortunately I do not have many folder, it would be good for me. Unfortunately, there are here in Germany not so many shops that you get the little money for folder. I love to visit you and look forward to visiting with you all.
ReplyDeletelove greeting tanja
sorry for my english
My favorite is the Swiss Dots. I use it a lot - it is so versatile. I keep my folders in a drawer along with my nestabilities. However after seeing what you did, I do think I will try that. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI just bought the Cuttlebug & a gazillion embossing folders, so I am just getting to know my way around them. I really like the borders because I can make the cards & have them ready to go, but use it mostly in scrapbooking! I LOVE your idea, & will be out tomorrow getting my supplies to organize mine!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Swiss Dots. I store them in a box right now. I have embossed images of all of them but not with numbers. I label by name. I do like the tag idea though. I may have to use a die to cut them out. Love the idea!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and is very much like how I organized mine. I make the tags and embossed them all but instead of numbering the folders I put the name on the folder and the tags. I bought a taller plastic bin with the lid and have them all filed in it. Works great and its so easy to flip through them to see what I want to use. My go to folder is the swiss dots. TFS!
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing us a great system!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Cuttlebug folder is Swiss Dots. I seem to go to it most often. I store my folders in a plastic bin. I don't have very many so it's not necessary for me to index them at this point.

I like divine swirls. You can use it to mimic waves or the wind on a snowy day.
ReplyDeleteHey Joy! It is Heather from CU...I have been saving pennies ever since CU and I finally bought a cuttlebug and several folders on sale online at Joann's ... however they are not here yet! So, my favorite one is coming in the mail and my storage system is the mail right now. BUT - when I get em, I am doing this!
ReplyDeleteI can not wait to share my Stamping Storage and Retrieval System I will be blogging about next week with you!
I think Swiss Dots is a must but I use textile quite a bit as well! I store mine in a fabric bin BUT, that baby is getting full and we may have to re-arrange soon as well. :)
ReplyDeleteSuper-duper idea for the embossing folders....and I'm thrilled for you on how everything has come together it's just plain exciting to have a great place to craft. You just keep to your namesake by spreading so much JOY everyday thanks ever so much.
ReplyDeleteI must add thanks for a chance at a great give away this is something I never knew about...how generous!
Very cool idea!! I don't have as many folders though (i wish I did) my go to folder is divine swirls!! Thanks for the chance to win!!

I love your system. I don't own any of these folders but you sure have convinced me that I need to get some! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this system. I had mine in a mini photo album but this works MUCH better. And I've got everything I need to make this happen. Thanks for the great idea. As for my favorite folder? Hands down, it's the swiss dots.
ReplyDeleteLove this tag idea! What a great way to look at all the possibilities in a glance! I don't have very many folders yet. My favorite is divine swirls. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you organized your folders. I have mine in a fabric bin from Target with my cuttle bug, plates and folders. I don't have that many so they all fit. When I need them I just take down the bin and bring it to my table.
ReplyDeleteMy fave would have to be wood grain. I love to make masculine cards and that one fits the bill.
ReplyDeleteI store mine in a photo box as you do, but I have a file system with the actual names at the tops of them and keep them in alpha order.
Thanks
Crystal R.
My favorite folder is Swiss Dots. I store them in my Workbox.
ReplyDeleteI get the most use out of the paisley folder. Elegant and versatile. I store mine in a plastic bin with sample attached to front and title at top. TFS
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant idea. I'm keeping this one in mind since right now I only have 3 Cuttlebug folders--so sad. With so few I don't have an organizing system.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic idea for cuttlebug storage, if only I had that many folders!!! I think my favorite folder is the swiss dots, it adds to dimension to almost any project. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI use my Swiss Dots the most...love it! I have my folders in a cute little box but I need (and intend) to make folders to hold each one with a label that has the name of the folder on it. I just never seem to find time to do this!

Oh wow what a great idea. My fav is the Divine Swirl. I use it all the time when I make cards and also in my scrapbooking. I store my folders and dies in a note book with vinyl slots. I found them on Ebay. They work grewt. They have many sizes so they fit all the different folders and dies. I love it. I can open the book and just flip through. Thanks for the wonderful idea and the great give away.
ReplyDeleteKathy
What a great idea for easy reference. I use the swiss dots the most. Thanks for the chance to win.

I've labeled all my folders with their names with my label maker and have them in an open wood box. I have them separated by type, but I like your number system. I especially like the sample tags. Their so easy to see.

This is a wonderful idea. I do need to organize mine better too and I like this idea. However, I did read an article (don't remember who or where) that if you use the markers on the folders, they will eventually bleed through and imprint onto the paper. I learned that after I had written the names on each of mine (in the lower right hand corner). So far I haven't had an issue with it. I just wanted you to be aware.
ReplyDeleteBut back to the subject...I love it!
I love the swiss dots folder - and it is because of you! I keep mine in a binder with sleeves. Each sleeve has the folder along with a sample (like your tags) of what it really looks like. Although I like your way better!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI like swiss dots and the Happy Birthday words one.
Thanks for the giveaway
I think my fave is the swiss dots. I keep my folders in one of the rectangular containers that you buy in the aisle with the plastic wrap. They fit in there perfectly and I can flip through them.

Brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing the cleaning of your craft room. Great ideas! I will definitely be using some. Would love to see more about your Cricut cartridge storage too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHard to pick a favorite but I will go with my first one--Swiss Dots. I store them in a plastic basket.
ReplyDeleteslrdowney at hotmail dot com
What a great system. I store all of my folders in little file folders that are embossed with the design on it.
ReplyDeleteMy fave folder is swiss dots too. So very versitale.
Thanks for the organization tip. My favorite cuttle bug plate is the polka dot.
ReplyDeleteIt can adapt to many different styles.
Oh my you are very smart. I love the storage idea you share. My favorite embossing folder is the Happy Birthday. I used this for a male friends Birthday Card. I cut a 3 3/4 x 3 1/2 piece from a beer can and embossed for on the A2 size card. Thanks for the chance to win this. I would really enjoy winning this.

Love the idea! I store mine in a drawer of a rolling plastic container. My favorite one ( the one I use the most) is Divine Swirl. I also love my edge folders~I use those inside of cards. Thanks for the give away! **glad you're OK after that storm, it looked horrible on the news!**
ReplyDeleteOkay ~ that is just BRILLIANT! I lLOVE the whole idea! I store my embossing folders in a container w/ lid. My SIL made us folders from some Cricut cartridge, years ago! We embossed the front of them with the folder image, then put the names on them. It works out pretty good. I do have to say I like yours much better! Thank You for answering some questions too! I am still LOVING that chair! I also am still APPLAUDING you with these posts! You should be very happy and pleased with the reults!
ReplyDeleteI use the Okieladybug cut file folders and emboss them which I sort by category, i.e. floral, font, borders, etc. I love this system, but yours is a close- it may be even easier and faster to locate what you want with your system. Good going on your organizing efforts!!
ReplyDeleteI use the Happy Birthday most often. Makes a super fast card when I am out of time. Just run it through, add a ribbon and some stickles or glitter pens for fun. I store them in a small sterlite container. I made deviders that I list what folders are in there and group them by similar folders like dots, flowers, birthday etc.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great ideas. I don't have that many folders but I love the Swiss dot also
ReplyDeletei have almost wore out my Swiss Dots folder. I love that one & use it A LOT! Thats for all you do for us.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!!! I will have to do this too.! I am such a visual person that the tags will really help me decide what folder to use on a project!
ReplyDeleteLove that idea, although I don't have nearly as many as you do!! My favorite is divine swirls. I am looking forward to some more wonderful ideas for organizing and your scrap room is looking great!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite embossing folder is the Swiss Dots pattern. I store mine standing up in a plastic box, and I also cut out tags and embossed each one to show what the pattern would look like - great idea!!!

Swiss Dots has to be my favorite Cuttlebug folder. I think it just fits with so many things giving that extra touch without overpowering the rest of the design. I have my folders stored in the plastic zipper bags from new pillowcases.
ReplyDeleteI have them in a bin that looks very much like yours, except I don't have them numbered...when I have one in mind, I have to hunt through all of them. I am thinking I will copy you! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteSwiss Dots is also my favorite Cuttlebug folder. There are so many great ones but it seems I almost always go back to the Swiss Dots on certain kinds of cards. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteLove your organizational ideas!!! Your craft room is something else...I am green with envy!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I am in awe over how many folders you have...I didn't know there were so many on the market! I love the numbered embossed tag idea. But, I only have 4 folders...poor me. I only have the Sizzix Texture Boutique. My lonesome folders are stacked on an undercount shelf, beneath my desk. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteReally nice system. My favorite is clocksworks. I store my folders in a medium size plastic bin. Thnaks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have every Cuttlebug folder on the market! A woman after my own heart! My favorite is the dots ~ followed closely by the swirls. I LOVE my cuttlebug folders! Since I don't have as many ~ I group mine by how often I use them ~ and then have the seasonal ones together.
ReplyDeleteSusanJ in Atlanta
I love how you are so organized - and that jumpring system is great....next on my list of things to tackle.
ReplyDeleteMy "go to" CB folder is the dotted swiss - though there are so many great ones to choose from.
I need to do this! My favorite is the Swiss Dots, however I have to admit that I don't remember that I have them most of the time. Probably because I throw them in a pile with the rest of my diecuts.
ReplyDeleteYour room look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the givaway. Now to my answers. My fav is Swiss dots too. As I only have around ten y have them in a pastic box .
Loly
My favorite is the Swiss dots. I don't have that many folders so I have them in a box and it doesn't take long to se which one I want.
ReplyDeletemotherloves3 at hotmail dot com
My favorite Cuttlebug embossing folder is Diamond plate...you can do so many different things with it like texture on a basket, parts on a big truck, or background on a card for a man/boy. Love your craft room! My hubby is talking about finishing our basement so I can have a craft room...I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteAwesome system. I only have about 20 folders, so I don't really need a system... yet! I have already embossed a small rectangle of each one. At this point they are just in a stack in my crafting cart. My favorite is the swiss dots!
ReplyDeleteI too have organized my cuddlebug embossing folders this way. I leave my ring out on my studio countertop so I remember to use my folders (which are tucked away on my bookcase). The only thing I do differently is I have the folders sorted by the actual name - which means they are stored in alpha order. My all time favorite folder - without a doubt is SWISS DOTS! Many thanks for this opportunity to win this fabulous prize!
ReplyDeleteI love the tag idea. I'm just starting my collection so I don't really have a favorite yet. They are stored just like yours in a tub with extra room for more!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea and will do that this week-end. I dont have many, maybe 10-12 os it shouldn't take long. The one I use the most is flower and vines folder. Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteI am always looking for new organization ideas. This one hit the spot. Thanks for sharing. I use Swiss dots most often but my favorite is probably snowflakes.
ReplyDeleteHi, I love your tag idea. It will be used. My favorite is swiss dots. I bought a clear box for cards at Michaels and it fits so many things nicely and now have bought one for my peachy keen stamps that also fit nicely. It has the plastic dividers and is tall enough to put the largest of cards. Thanks Phyllis
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the tags!! THANKS SO MUCH!!!! I will be getting started on mine. I love your ideas and the great things you teach us all! Thanks for sharing your talents with us!
ReplyDeleteterryg3_2@msn.com
love your room!!!! working on mine!! almost done! love the idea of the CB folders, will try it soon! I love the polka dots, the swirls, the "friends", and I use the thank you one a lot...up to now I am keeping them in square tins...I will make the tags and put them in another tin next to the folders...Loved that!! Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteCarmen
My favorite CB folders are Swiss Dots and Swirls. Love the organizing strategy....mine are just thrown in a drawer along with the plates. :(
ReplyDeleteMy favs are the same as yours, although I don't have nearly that many. I printed the names on clear labels and store them in an old hinged photo box. I do have samples but I like the tags on a ring idea. I saw that idea used for keeping track of colors of distress inks.
ReplyDeleteDebbie G
ReplyDeleteGreat Embossing Folder storage idea!!! I love so many of the embossing folders, but the one I use the most is Swiss Dots.
debbieanng@yahoo.com
well, I just got my cuttlebug a few weeks ago... I havn't even gotten it out of the box, yet. I have no idea which folder would be my fav, due to my first statement.... I think making my own with my Imagine would be a great idea, though.... I have lots of Cricut carts I'd love to emboss.... thanks for the opportunity to win such great tools... Pick Me, Pick Me!!!
ReplyDelete--Robin
Love the idea. I have mine stored in a boot box. Great idea have to get to work on it- My favorite is the swiss dots. TFS

My Favorite Cuttlebug folder is Swiss Dots...I use it all the time! I wish there were more 5x7 folders!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to see what you have and how it looks on paper and way to file them!
Thanks!
I just started buying cb folders, I have 2 and got them both on sale. Ill start this idea now so once I've collected as many as you they'll already be neat and organized. Thanks for passing this along, great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the tag idea. I have mine in a shoe box, propped up, but have to go thru them all to find one I want to use. I think there is a shopping trip ti get some rings and then make some tags! My fav is Swiss dots!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Joy. You always share great ideas!
Right now mine our just in a box with no order. I love this idea ! Going to start getting mine in order by doing this. I can also see doing my sixxiz shapes the same way !
ReplyDeleteNew to embossing but the folder I have tried the most is the Swiss Dots. I have my folders in a shoebox file.
ReplyDeletecarolpeterbirch@gmail.com
This is such a great idea! I was getting complaints this past weekend about my messy craft room, got your email yesterday and sent it to my hubby at work. He wrote back: "Keep this, there's some good ideas that we can use for your dump."
ReplyDeleteWow, you have a lot of folders! Love your storage system. I only have about 12 so they just stack on a shelf in my armoire. Swiss Dots is definitely my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI already subscribe. Thanks for the chance and for sharing such great ideas!
I would have to say my favorite is the basic Swiss Dots - I use it a lot. As I don't have too many cuttlebug folders I just stand them up in a basket similar to yours. but I love your idea. I may get it started as I hope to add to my cuttlebug folder collection!
ReplyDeleteTextile...is my new favorite. I love cuttlebugging! Everthing is embossed! Thanks you. Love your stuff.
ReplyDeleteI too love the Swiss Dots and Divine Swirl folders. I don't have as many as you do so for now they are rubber banded together. I love the tag idea and will be sure to make them before our next crop at church so others can easily see what folders I have.
ReplyDeleteI only have about 25 folders, so they're all in a small bin. My favorite is the Divine Swirls. I've used it for so many different applications - water, sky, sheep's wool, frosting, clouds, ice cream, etc., etc. I love my folders but wish more of them were 5" X 7". I have only one this size and it's a Christmas-themed pattern. Thanks for the great storage system idea!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite folder is the swiss dots, also. It works for everything. I am using the Snap n Store containers often 50% off at JoAnn's to store embellishments and Cuttlebug folders. I use this system because they fit in the medical file cabinet I use for all my scrpbook storage, and I can keep adding more as my collection grows. (The medical file is the one where the doors open and slide in at the top - it's not very deep so works in my small craft room.)I love the "tags" idea for quick reference.
ReplyDeleteThis was an INSPIRED idea . . . and got me thinking. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your organization ideas! My favorite embossing folder is the swiss dots and I have another one with larger "polka dots" all over it. I also like the folders with words like the birthday and "you are special" ones. I keep my folders in a basket next to my dies; I "only" have about 20, so not too overwhelming....yet!
ReplyDeleteI store mine in a plastic tub. There are still in the original boxess so I can see which one is which. I like your idea.

AWESOME...I LOVE this idea. I store my folders in two mesh CD containers from Container store. I also have a tip,,, I keep a small spiral notebook in my purse with a list of Cuttlebug folders, spellbinders, punches and other items. Saves me from buying duplicates! Fav is Swiss dots hands down.

I love that idea! My folders are in a side pocket of a suitcase style scrapbook organizer. I love the snowflake folder, as it works great for backgrounds of Christmas cards!
ReplyDeleteSandyR says:I love the idea of the ring! I also wrote the name of the folder on top where you have your numbers. My favorite folder is the one I have in my hand at the time. I really like soooooo many of them
ReplyDeleteMy emboss folders are much like your were, messsy!!!!!!! But I just love this idea and think I'll get started today with this organization idea!!!!!! Thanks for letting us on your craft room and sharing such great inspirations!!!! Suzette from Louisiana.
ReplyDeleteOh great ideas. I have mine like Okie and in ABC order. I like that system. They are little folders that are embossed so you can see what it looks like.
ReplyDeleteHummm my favorite that is hard to say. I guess I use Divine Swirl the most so I guess that is my favorite.
Thanks for sharing your idea. The ring would be good to take shopping so you don't buy duplicates. LOL I know I have done that.
I store mine in a wicker basket. My favorite is divine swirls.

I have my folders in a 3 ring notebook in pencil pockets.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite one is the Grace's Frame.
So neat for a small stamp.

Swiss Dot is my favorite. Love your idea thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI like the number system. I used 8 1/2"x11" paper and cut in fourths, wrote the folder name then emoossed them but your tags are so much cuter. I need to punch holes in them and get a ring to hold them together because they're loose and I've dropped them and mixed them all up. Anyways thanks for the tip. My fav go to cuttlebug folder is divine swirls.

I am i the market to purchase either the Cuttlebug or a Big Shot Pro. I like the idea of sample tags. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win! I've always wanted to try to make my own embossing folders but haven't yet. Right now, all my folders and dies are just thrown in a drawer and it's pretty time consuming to go through them everytime I need one. I love the tag and number system you just showed us, so I think it's time for some embossing folder cleaning here!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Cuttlebug folder is the dotted swiss. That one can be used for any card. I store mine in a similar basket like yours just not as organized. But now that I seen this post I will be doing that. Thank you for the info
ReplyDeleteMy folders are a mess. I do put the name of the folder so I know which is which but that is about all. I love this idea and will have to try it and get it started before I get to many. My favorite folder is Swiss Dots it is my stand by.

This is brilliant! I feel an organizing session coming on soon. I really need to be more organized with my folders. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite folder is the cherry blossoms, although there are many others tied for 2nd. They are currently in a box labeled "embossing folders." I like the idea of making sample tags.
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite Cuttlebug folder is Vintage Wallpaper...I like vintage all around best when papercrafting so that pattern usually fits what I am working on! But I have most all of the folders and use them all! I store mine in little file folders I made on cricut design studio with the fronts embossed with the pattern. I store them all in a CD box and along with the plates they fit perfect! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteAwesome endeavor. Once I get moved into my MIL quarters, I'm gonna try this. I store my folders and dies in one of my cubes (Reflections -- 4 drawer wonder).

Love your craft room, i have been trying to re organize mine, but haven't had much luck completing it. My fave cuttlebug folders are swiss dot and swirls. I store mine in a small stackable plastic tote i got at target. It has 3 compartments that stack on top of each other and lock together. And you can add more layers if you need them.
ReplyDeleteI have a room that needs transforming! Want to come to CA for a few weeks? Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMaureen
I love my cuttlebug! It adds that extra thing to finish off a card. I plan to use the fleur de lis one this week to make a card for an Eagle scout. My favorite is probably swiss dots because it's so versatile and divine swirls for something a little fancier. I keep mine in the box the cuttlebug came in. Not organized but I did write the name of each one on the outside of it with sharpie.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite embossing folder is the Tiffany! I have just started getting embossing folders and now I am stacking them. I like the new system you showed us! Thanks!

I love this idea/ My favorite folder right now is a circle one. I store my folders in a small rectangular crate that I got years ago as part of a bath product gift package. It works perfectly to hold them. I don't have nearly as many as you!
ReplyDeleteMy friend gave me her Cuttlebug when she was given a Hot Shot. So I don't have but about 3 folders right now. I love the dotted swiss and look forward to using it. I will keep this filing system in mind as i buy folders.
ReplyDeleteI like Swiss Dots the best because it is SO versatile. I store mine in a container I got at JoAnn's, it doesn't hold all of them so the rest are in one of those rolling carts. Not the best system! I love your ideas and will have to implement them in my work space!
ReplyDeleteI love the Fancy Frames folder. I don't have that many folders so I store my folders in the blue Cuttlebug folder case from Provocraft.
ReplyDeletei used a label maker and labeled all my folders by name and have them stored alphabetically in a plastic container. i like the idea of having the tags stamped with each design for easy reference and be adding this to my collection.
ReplyDeletewow, what a great idea ... mine are just in a box!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love your idea! I just store my cuttlebug folders in plastic shoe box. I keep a sample of embossed paper in each folder so I have a sample, but I love your idea WAY better! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWOW that looks like it was a lot of work to get started! I think that I have grown to love the Swiss dots. Seams like I use it on most of my cards. Thanks for all the great organization ideas!
ReplyDeleteGreat storage idea. I like the tags so that you can see at a glance what it would look like. My favourite folder right now is Devine Swirls as I only have a few in my collection. I also have a circles one that I use frequently. I really want Swiss Dots but my Michael's store never has it so I'll have to go online and find it, I guess.
ReplyDeleteMy folders are stored in similar fashion but I have to flip through them to see which I want to use, Your adopted method of using the tags is very good! My favorite folder is SWISS DOTS and DIVINE SWIRLS a close second.
ReplyDeletelove your idea of storing love the tag idea!!! i only wish i could own soooo many!!!! my favorite is the Swiss Dots.....love it!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the chance to win!!!

Great job! Good for you to get so organized. Thanks for some great ideas. I store my Cuttlebug in cardstock folders cut with a Cricut file that Okielady designed. The folder is emoboassed on the front and stored by color-coded category - general, fancy, love, etc. I tried using a perm marker on the folder but the writing comes off after a few passes thru the machine. The folders are stored in 3 open video boxes. I have a card group that uses my folders so I ask gals to stand the cardstock holders upright when using the folder to be able to put them back more easily.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to keep all the folders organized! I think right now my textile texture embossing folder is my favorite, but I really use the swiss dots a lot and I also love Tim Holtz's wood grain folder too!
ReplyDeleteWhar a wonderful idea! And if you have the creative memories tag punch, a great way to use up scraps of cardstock! I have quite a number of folders and currently I have them in one of those fancy designer boxes from Michaels and they are alpabetized. Another neat thing about the tag system - you can grab the bundle and go to the store and you won't wonder if you are purchasing a duplicate. . .like I just did! Thanks ffor sharing this tip!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing... now I have the inspiration to get my room organized too. Your CB folder storage is wonderful and efficient, will definitely be doing that! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. Thanks for showing off you craft room before and after. My favorite has to be swiss dots.
ReplyDeleteI am doing this!! I printed it so I would have a visual to follow. My favorite is the one that looks like Paisley. I use it with the Core paper and sand it off...BEAUTIFUL!!! Hope I win!!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day!

Thanks, Joy! I agree with you that the tags and numbering are a wonderful idea! Kudos to whoever out there came up with it! Thanks for sharing (I love your responses to the questions! Especially the one about how long it took to get your space looking so amazing!) TFS!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! I love it! Mine are organized alphabetically by title in a similar way. I write the name of each folder on it after I buy it and then put it in alphabetically. I totally should try this system because there are definitely some that I use more often then others. My favorite is Swiss Dots, but I also love the polka dot one too! Hugs- Glora
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a great idea for storing those cuttlebug folders. Right now I like the Swiss Dot folder. I keep my folders in a basket, but I really need to label them. Thanks for sharing this idea.
ReplyDeleteSwiss dots is my favourite because you can use it on just about anything. I store my folders in a box as well, similar to yours. I like the ring tag idea though as it would let me see what I have. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the tag idea for the folders. I am going to do this. My favourite folder is the Swiss Dot one. I store all of mine in a basket on my cutting table. Thanks for your inspiration once again.
ReplyDeleteI agree what an awesome idea-I will be doing this myself. Thanks for the size suggestion for the tags. I can then get ride of all those plastic containers that each folder is in. I hope you show how you do spellbinder dies too I would love to see a good storage option for these. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWell..I would have to say Swiss Dots although I do love the holiday ones as well. TFS and the chance to win!!

I just got my cuttle bug for my birthday on sunday, so right now I'm storing everything in a container, my favorite one I got was the flowers & circles. I made a Easter card with it yesterday!
ReplyDeleteSO far one of my favorite folders is the Queen of Hearts - I just luv all of them tho - they are a cheap thrill that's why I have to keep buying them....thanks for the storage filing system - doing it next !!!
ReplyDeleteI love the organization ideas. I just got a Cuttlebug so dont have many designs yet but I do love the Swiss Dots. I keep my designs in a small bin but as my collection grows I may have to think about new storage ideas!

I am shocked that the Dominoes folder has gotten as much use as it has. I also love the Number collage. I have to say that I ran out yesterday to purchase the Martha Stewart folders you mentioned in your craft room reorngantization email. Awesome storage ideas!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the swiss dots folder and the other giant dot folder (I don't know the name of it)Thank you for sharing the folder storage idea. I don't have that many yet, but I will start doing this now!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this idea. Thank you for sharing. Glad you weathered the storms yesterday. We were stuck in my boys school for 1 1/2 hours before they let us leave. I missed all the excitement because we were in an interior room. So sad for all the people that had so much damage.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea! I have mine in the folders notebook, but like yours alot more!! my favorite go to is the swiss dots, it works with a lot of card ideas. thanks for the chance to win. I am a follower.
ReplyDeleteYour room looks great! I love your CuttleBug organization and storage. I do something similar with my folders, though I have nowhere near as many as you. I embossed a tag with each folder, and added the name, so I know what I have and what it looks like. I also wrote the name of the folder on the folder itself, since they do not come with names printed on them. Thanks for sharing the great tips and projects!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Cuttle Bug is D'vine Swirl. I keep my folders in a open top storage tub.

I love this way of storing the folders... You have inspired me to get organized!!!
ReplyDeletewhere did you the coozies you have on the cuttle bug and the cricut??
OMG! LOVE this idea! I don't have as many embossing folders as you, however they STILL need Organizing! BTW my dear friend and fellow blogger taught me how to leave a comment! YEA! Thanks for sharing this idea! Thanks for the weekly coupons too!!!! Jenny D.
ReplyDeleteI really love the dotted swiss and devine swirls folders. The tag idea is great. I took 6" x 2" strips of paper and punched a border on each side so I know what I have. Sometimes I forget, buy another punch and then my goddaughter benefits!!!! Thanks for all your hard work and ideas!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite and much used folder is Divine Swirl. For now, I store my folders in a plastic bin in a drawer.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a favorite folder yet although I really like divine swirls. I don't have many folders so for now I just store them in the box with my Cuttlebug. I super like this system your using though so if I ever need one I'm sure I'll remember this!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. My favorite is of course Swiss Dots. It's so versatile. I store mine in plastice CD holders that I got a Wal-Mart for 1.00. A while ago someone suggested it and making file folders (cricut cart - not sure which one anymore). I then embossed the front of the folder with the embossing folder.
ReplyDeleteGerry
I really like the dot folder, but I have about 20 of them. I use a tin box (that I decorated of course!) and made folders with my Gypsy and Cricut. Then I used the embossing folder on the front page of the folder to show the design and placed the embossing folder inside the embossed folder and place them in he can, with the name on the folder tag. Works fine for me!
