7 Things You Might Not Know About the Cricut Explore!

Here are some questions I have gotten as a follow up to my video on which Cricut Explore machine you should get (click HERE to see that post and video):

1) Do the Explore machines use the same mats as the Expression?
Yes they do!

2) Do the Explore machines use the same blades?
No, the Explore machines use a German carbide blade BUT you can use the Expression blades in the Explore. It just won't last as long.

3) Are there any advantages to buying the Cricut Explore plus the wireless adaptor instead of the Explore Air? Or are they the same thing?
The only advantage would be price because the Cricut Explore plus the wireless adaptor has all the same features as the Cricut Explore Air.

4) I have 150 cartridges. How do I use those with the Cricut Explore machines and Design Space?
If those cartridges are registered on your cricut.com account, you can access those in Design Space right now. If they are not, you can link them using the port on the Explore machine - watch THIS VIDEO to see how to do that. You would need the internet to link them using the port because you need to be on the Design Space software on your computer. You cannot link cartridges from the app at this time. If these cartridges were linked to a Gypsy, then you can transfer them to your cricut.com account by using these instructions which have you linking the cartridges to the Cricut Craft Room. Anything linked to Cricut Craft Room is available in Design Space.

5) Are there any problems using Design Space with a Mac?
No - that is how I have used Design Space from the beginning. Here is a listing of the requirements you need for both PC, Mac and iOS devices:

6) What is the size of the Explore?
It is 22.2" wide x 6" high x 7" deep.

7) I have limited access to the internet - do I need the internet to use the Cricut Explore and Design Space software?
At this time, you do need the internet to use the Design Space software and Cricut Explore machines (original, Air and One).

When you use the Design Space app on your iPhone or iPad, you still need either data connection or wifi to use the Design Space app and cut with the machine.

Cricut is working on an offline version of the Design Space app (which I am testing right now - WHOOP!) and it should be released soon. That means you could access all your images (whether it's your cartridges or in the subscription library), design with them and cut with them all offline using the Design Space app and your iPhone and/or iPad.

For Android users, they are working on an app and hope to have that released in the next few months (or sooner - they are very close).

  1. One thing to note those German Carbide blades work in the Expression. I use them instead of the regular replacement blades!

  2. Good to know about the offline version. I was hoping the rumors were true.

  3. As soon as offline is released it might be that one has to ship to the Netherlands.... wifi is not so good in my attic craftroom

  4. wow! finally, a glimpse of hope for an offline version of the software :)

  5. Hi, I really need help!!! I hope you would help me on this. I'm from Indonesia and I've used cricut expression for years, now I want to buy the explore machine which I will import from U.S , but unfortunately, the design space app. For ipad is not available for indonesia store (in I tunes store),

  6. So I hope you would help me talk to cricut ssupport to make it available internationally, so as the offline version, because it's just wonderful and I really really love cricut machine.

  7. Thank you so much for your help. Sorry, my connection wasn't that good, I have to input by parts. Hope to hear from you....

  8. One thing to note about question number 3- comparing the Air to the One. There are two "write/cut" ports on the Air and only one on the One. FYI

    1. I was just about to say the same. I think that this would change a lot of peoples decision I thought the explore one only had the bt difference so we bought it and with all the add ons you are better off purchasing the air.

  9. I read somewhere that you have to pay a monthly fee to use the designs in Design Studio, including your own designs that you upload. Is this true?? Please explain.

    1. no, I have never paid a fee

  10. Hi Joy! Any word on a release date for the offline version of Design Studio?

  11. Will the offline version of Design Space work with a Cricut Expression?

  12. If they are working on an andriod app should I wait to purchase the explore air when it is released?

  13. Joy these are great tips, I purchased my explore air in april of 2016, I had read that all the images and cartridges bought thru cricut or else where would automatically be available in design space after you linked the cartridges, well guess what I am still waiting for my images to be moved over to design space it is October 2016, The last rep I talked to told me some of the images I purchased from cricut were unique to cricut craft room and could not be moved over. Any suggestions to my dilemma?

  14. There are so many useful information in your post, I like it all the time. And I want to share this app store optimization tools with you,you can take a look. This is very useful.

  15. are they will working on the offline version? It has been some time since you said you were testing it and I still do not see that as an option.
