Easy Dishwasher Cricut Vinyl Sign Using Word Collage

Do dishes stack up in your sink because no one knows if the dishwasher is clean or dirty?  Never mind that the dishwasher is inches from the sink and could easily be checked.  No one will do it and so the dishes start lining the sink and countertop.  To combat this problem, I created this "clean dirty" laminated magnet sign for my dishwasher.
I decided that the "dirty" would be in green, signaling it's ok to put dishes in the dishwasher; red for the word "clean" would mean stop or don't put dirty dishes into the dishwasher.
In the Cricut Craft Room,  I laid out the clean and dirty wording as shown above so that I could lay out my green and red vinyl easily.  I used vinyl because lining up the words would be so easy this way - just use the transfer tape and it goes on like a dream. The words are actually from the Cricut Word Collage cartridge and I went through and removed the other words using the "hide selected contour" feature.
I used the Cricut Craft Room Basics free cartridge on the Cricut Craft Room for the shaped background.  It measures approximately 6" x 8". I wanted the sign nice and big so there would be no chance of mis-reading it.  LOL!
I used the Provo Craft Your Story laminating machine to laminate the sign and keep it clean.  I used scissors to cut around the shape.
Finally, after laminating, I added strips of magnet material to the back of the sign.

  2. Yep, I need this for my dishwasher. Unfortunately I will probably be the only one to use it!

  3. What a great idea. Yes, I have dishwasher woes just like you - at home and at work.

  4. What a cute way to help the family help with a chore that it seems no one wants to do - load and empty the dishwasher! I enjoy hand washing dishes but do use the dishwasher some...but it isn't much of an issue.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  5. I don't have a dishwasher--I am the dishwasher. My son's family has asked me to make one of these.

  6. Cute sign. We have a dishwasher but do not use it for dishwashing. I wash the dishes by hand.

  7. N o, we don't have the dishwasher woes that you experience, but it's on;y my husband and I. When we had kids at home, I tried one of those "clean/dirty" things, but we had trouble remembering to turn it the right way!

  10. It is just my husband and me but I have come to accept that it is my job to load and unload the dishwasher. I like the idea of the sign. This cartridge looks like a good one.

  11. We do dishes the "old fashioned" way....by hand. We do have a dishwasher which we use when we have company. So, no, we don't have any problems. Thanks for sharing your time, talents, and ideas with us.

  12. I air dry my clean dishes, when the dishwasher is done. That way there's a clue that the dishes are clean. Like your clean and dirty sign ,but I'm sure like another person's comment we'd forget to turn it the right way. Thanks for another great idea though. rosebud114

  13. Thank you for the great project. We do have a dishwasher but only use it when we have company. We have a small family and it takes forever to fill up the dishwasher so it's easier to just wash the dishes by hand.

  17. Cute idea! After a few frustrating decades, I finally have my family trained to put their dishes in the dishwasher (for the most part). Getting them to do it correctly is going to take a little longer...

  18. I like this sign but don't have my dishwasher with me right now. Thanks for the tip and the chance to win.

  19. LOL - I, myself, recently emptied the dishwasher only to realize it hadn't yet been run. (I guess I pre-wash too thoroughly now since there are only two of us at home and the dishwasher doesn't get run as often now). I guess it's time to make one of these signs - for me! Elaine S.

  20. Unfortunately I do not have a dish washer. Do not know If I am the only one, but your idea was cute.

  21. This sign would be helpful in my house. My husband hand washes all the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher so it is hard to tell clean from dirty. His "dirty" dishes are probably as clean before going through the dishwasher as after. Jill P., Manteca, CA

  22. I really like the size of this sign. I've seen smaller ones--ones my husband would never notice. But I think he might actually see this one!

  23. I think I will try out this idea, possibly changing the colors to match my kitchen. Cute idea, thanks!

  24. We do have dishwasher woes like you describe...but our machine isn't magnetic, so I can't make one I these cool magnets to help! Usually, my kids or husband just asks "clean/dirty?", and I always know (why am I the only one?!). ;)

  26. I do not have any dishwasher woes as there's just my hubby & I and he's an awesome kitchen guy in charge of the dishwasher and kitchen cleanup. Love your sign it's so cute and golly super clever of you. TFS!!!!

  29. What a great idea! I can't tell you how many times I've had to run the dishwasher over again because someone (meaning my husband) put something dirty in there when the dishes were clean! This should solve the problem.

  34. My dishwasher woe is that no one wants to empty it when the dishes are clean.

  35. Thanks for the chance to win. I have to admit I have the same problems as you with the dishwasher. We assume its dirty and so the dishes start stacking up in the sink or we assume the dishwasher was turned on and so we don't check and there those dirty dishes sit.

  36. We wash some dishes in the sink (knives, pans) and then turn on our dishwasher at night. There's only 4 adults in our home so the dishes don't stack up that quickly.
