Great article !
I have CDS and just got a Gypsy, so I've tried it for hours and hours and so far I love it ! But I love CDS as well... Only the Gypsy being portable is really wonderful !
Nevertheless, i'd like to have both linked to my PC/Cricut, to be able to switch from one to the other, or to avoid moving my Cricut all the time to plug the Gypsy or my PC on it back, so is it possible to have both G AND CDS connected ? How ? Thanks.

For the anonymous who wanted to know how to look through cartidges on gypsy without going through the whole list. You can filter to just the cartridges you have linked. Go to the screen where you designing image and touch keypad in lower right hand corner, your list appears at top where it says show touch arrow and filter to linked cartridges. Now you can only see the cartridges you actually have.

I recently purchased the gypsy and was a little confused in the beginning, but I know LOVE the gypsy and I don't really need my design studio, and its portable.So I can take it anyware, and works with all cricut machines.I also have the personal, expression, and the imagine. LOVE them all they all have their own capabilities that the other ones do not.

Great information on the difference between the JB, DS, and the Gypsy. I have all three and have stopped using my DS and JB. I recently took my Gypsy to a weekend crop and was able to do everything I wanted to without having all the extra supplies to lug around. I also took the Gypsy on a scrapbooking cruise and again it saved me so much space in my luggage.

Weld connects items together and they MUST be touching. Grouping keeps items together BUT they don't need to be touching. For example, if you made a word (not connected) and put hearts in front and behind it, you could group those items and then move them around the mat and/or copy and paste them. They wouldn't be touching one another but they would all move together. If you use the weld function, they are actually all touching and connected so when it cuts, it is now ONE piece. HTH!!

Actually the back-end program to the Gypsy IS Design Studio. I had a LONG talk with the Cricut Rep at CKC as I was concerned they would stop supporting DS. He said if they did that, then they would have to stop selling the Gypsy as it is DS is the backend for Gypsy (his exact words).

What is the difference between weld and group? At CKC, the rep grouped everything together using the weld feature and cut a huge design and it was all connected together.

Don't forget that DS will not work with Mac computers. So for us Mac owners the Gypsy is the rather expensive solution.
