UPDATE: Cricut Explore Print then Cut Feature News!

This letter appeared on the Cricut Blog yesterday (WHOOP!):

The Cricut Team has been hard at work developing our Print then Cut feature for Cricut Design Space.  This feature will let you easily print then cut the 50,000+ images in the Cricut library in just a few clicks using your Cricut Explore. The new feature will also work with images you import for free such as jpeg’s and svg’s.  Our latest plan is to release this feature in late September, consistent with our back half of 2014 target communicated previously.
We have had several dozen Product Experts from the Cricut Community including Beth Kingston, one of our HSN on-air hosts and design bloggers, trying out the Print then Cut feature as well as a couple of widely requested (by you!) design tools that are included in our next release.
We are extremely passionate about doing extensive testing on any new product or release.  This commitment is part of what we call the New Cricut.
Best,

Ashish Arora and the New Cricut Team

Please understand that the Explore will not print itself -you will be doing that with your home printer. The Explore will be able to then cut out what you print on your home printer.  FYI!

  3. I am hoping we will be able somehow to cut around stamped images. I have been thinking of buying the Brother Scan N Cut but waiting for the new feature on the Explore to see if it is possible. I'm not sure yet how it will work but am eager to find out. Thank you for the information.

    1. You print the image out on your printer then place on mat so machine will cut it out

  16. Still pretty exciting... I think that this was the one thing the Cameo had over the Explore and now the competition begins again (personally, the Explore is winning for me).

  21. My comment didnt get posted so im trying again. Is there any place we can go for uploading and downloading our images to others to help them get ones they dont have or need? I wasnt sure. We just purchased the explore a week ago and we are making vinyl stickers with it....

  22. I love the new Print then Cut feature! I have not purchased the machine because I am confused about having to buy a monthly or yearly subscription. Is it correct that in order to use SVG's that we purchase from other sites we must buy into Cricut's monthly subscription? Are there any other subscriptions that we must buy in order to use the Cricut Explore? Can we buy individual images on an as needed base (keyword ~ buy) and have access when ever we need to without any further fees? Thank You! Louise

    1. Lousie,

You can cut any .svg on the Cricut Explore free! No need to buy a subscription. Also, if you already have Cricut Cartridges you can link them to your Design Space free of charge and use them anytime you like. Cricut Design Space is free. The subscriptions is only and added feature. You can buy single digital images, digital cartridges, or physical cartridges. Now go get yourself a Cricut Explore you will love it. I love mine!

  24. I love the Print and Cut feature, I have always wanted a machine that would be able to cut out my own stash of clip art. I do know that the Silhouette Cameo and other machines, such as the Zing can also cut out images you have on your computer. But decided to buy the Cricut Explore, as it was offered for a good price on HSN.com with some extra goodies, that wouldn't be available at other online stores. I am impressed by the Explores cutting ability around all the nooks and crannies of some of the images I have tried on it. Last night I cut out images on magnet paper, which is a bit thick, similar to vinyl (I had some Avery Magnet Sheets 8x11 sheets in my craft closet) They came out quite nice. I made a webpage which shows my first few cut outs of my clip art images > http://sippingtea.com/tuts/cricutexploreprintncut.html - that any one is welcome to view. I think that one of the biggest complaints I have read by other crafters, is that the software program needed to work with the Explore is totally WEB BASED. You can't do anything with the Explore unless you are Online and use the Cricut Design Space So if you have a slow connection or you lose your connection, you won't be able to do anything with your machine. There are other complaints too, that you can find online and at the Cricut.com community forums. But for me anyway, I am happy so far with my purchase, and look forward to *Exploring* All this machine can do.
