The end of an era....

I love the '90s...LOL!

Yesterday, my dad passed on peacefully after a very brief bout of cancer. While my family is deeply saddened by this, he was in a miserable state and it's wonderful to see him freed from it.  I know we will see him again, in Heaven, so I take a lot of comfort in that.
I appreciate all the kind comments and prayers offered up for my family!  They have supported us through this rough journey - I could feel your love and kindness - THANK YOU!  You guys are so wonderful - I feel blessed to have met and know such kind, supportive people!  I am grateful everyday for all of you and I love you!

Here's something my husband Brian wrote about him:
Joy’s father, Ralph Warburton passed away today. His battle with cancer was short-lived and his passing a blessing.

He was an incredibly accomplished man. With a bachelor’s degree from MIT and two master’s degrees from Yale, Ralph was also a licensed Architect, Professional Engineer, Interior Designer and Community Planner in Florida and eight other states and D.C. After starting his career as an architect at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, Ralph became the Special Assistant to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Urban Design. He held that position during both the Johnson and Nixon Administrations, working directly for Secretaries Weaver and Romney. He left HUD in 1972 to become a fully-tenured professor at the University of Miami but continued to consult to the Nixon, Ford and Carter Administrations. He maintained a private consulting practice for over twenty-five years and was an expert witness in the areas of architecture and city planning.

A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Ralph was a role model and a strong influence on everyone around him.

That’s a lot to pack into one life. He will be greatly missed.

  1. Dear Joy,
My heart aches with you at the passing of your father. He was a wonderful man, but most of all, he was a wonderful daddy to you. My heartfelt prayers are for you and your family at this sad time. What am I thankful for? I am thankful for a loving God who makes it possible to be reunited with our loved ones. I am also thankful for my own dear daddy who passed nine years ago at age 92,who lives on in my heart and in the memories, mannerisms, and faces of my children and grandchildren. God bless you.

  2. Joy...I am thinking of you today. I understand your feelings about your father's illness. We were told that mom would only go about 6 months in her battle with breast cancer. She is still with us after more than a year and has amazed her hospice doctor and nurses. It is difficult to see her this way and I do believe that it is a blessing when our loved ones pass after battling cancer. I am grateful today for each minute that I spend with mom. I am grateful for my sister, brother, and niece who help me to care for her during the nights. I am grateful for her daytime caregivers. I know one day soon, mom will go to be with God and when that time comes, I will be grateful for her release from pain.

Sending you and your family prayers!

  119. I am So thankful for this wonderful country (USA) we live in. It allows us ALL the freedoms we have today.God Bless Us All. Everything we do, everyday of our lives all stem from these freedoms of this great country. Whether it is our jobs, religions, families, etc. Watching the news, makes me grateful for my life, and country. I ALWAYS feel SO proud when I see the beautiful Stars and Stripes flying! That flag (in my opinion), is second to none!

  153. Oh my gosh, Joy, I am just seeing this. My heart goes out to you and your family. It is a blessing when you see them suffer that they go fast. Very difficult but a blessing. I lost my Dad 3 years ago this past January and my Mom in April. Both of my parents past away of pneumonia, Dad went quite quickly and Mom lingered on. It bother me so much to hear her gurgle that I would help the ones taking the fluid out of her lungs by holding Moms hands. Although it was hard for me it made it easier on her and I don't regret it at all.
Hold onto all the good memories it really helps you get through this. Sorry I am so late at this, I was just checking blogs a little late I guess.
angel hugs to you my friend and may the angels watch over you and your family.
    Debby
