Cricut Craftroom Q & A from Facebook Page

For those of you who don't facebook....here is a Q & A from the Cricut Facebook Page:

We'll continue to post questions and answers in this discussion topic as they become available. Thank you for taking the time to post questions.

Q: What is Cricut Craft Room?
A: Cricut Craft Room is a free online design tool

Q: How is it different from Cricut Design Studio and Gypsy?
A: While offering similar features to both CDS and Gypsy, Cricut Craft Room requires an internet connection (CDS does not) and requires you to be on a computer (not mobile like Gypsy)

Q: How much is Cricut Craft Room?
A: FREE

Q: When will Cricut Craft Room be available?
A: We are planning to launch this software in April, 2011

Q: Does Cricut Craft Room work with PC and MAC?
A: Yes, upon launch Cricut Craft Room will work on both a PC and a MAC.

Q: How do I access Cricut Craft Room?
A: When it is released, you'll be able to access Cricut Craft Room through your cricut.com account.

Q: How do I link my cartridges to Cricut Craft Room?
A: You can either link your Gypsy to CCR to update your account, or if you do not have a Gypsy you can connect your Cricut machine to your computer (using the same cable you use to perform firmware updates) and link your cartridges to your account through your Cricut.

Q: Can CCR cut with multiple cartridges at one time like Gypsy?
A: Yes, you will not have to connect each individual cartridge when cutting unless you are using a cartridge that has not been synced to your account.

Q: Can I use CCR offline? Do I need an internet connection?
A: Yes, CCR required that you have an internet connection in order to access your account.

Q: What does Beta mean?
A: When we say CCR is in Beta we just mean it's in a testing phase where we have selected individuals testing the software for us.

Q: Can I be a part of the beta test?
A: We have already selected those who will participate in our beta program.

Q: Do I have to use cartridges with CCR or can I make my own images and cut true type fonts?
A: You must use cartridges with CCR. CCR does not allow you to access true type fonts on your computer and cut them using Cricut.

Q: How will you manage the site so it doesn't get bogged down with so many people using it at one time?
A: That is what we are testing with our beta program. Will will continue to test our software and the capacities we anticipate it will need to provide a good user experience.

Q: Are my CCR files available to anyone but me through my account?
A: No, the only way anyone can access your files is if they are logged into your account.

  1. Had no idea about CCR, interesting but not sure if I would use this. I am a newbie to Gypsy and might not be a good idea to tackle another type of program (if I understand right).

  4. Will CCR make the Jukebox and DS obsolete? I really like being able to link the carts right to my cricut. Will I be able to link more than on Cricut Machine to each cartridge, as I teach classes and own 2 expressions and one cake machine.

  6. Yeah, I've got my eye on this. Sounds VERY INTERESTING!!!
I don't have CDS but I do have a Gypsy. What will the Craftroom be able to do that the Gypsy can't???

  8. Thanks so much, Joy. I have been wondering about the "when" and "how" of CraftRoom since reading about it at CHA the other day. You are the best...always keeping us connected with what is happening!

  10. Can't wait. I love my gypsy, but this will give us a larger viewing screen. Helpful for those of us that are older and our eye sight isn't what it use to be!!!!! I think this is fantastic. I think, and this is just my opinion of course, this is Provo Crafts way of compensating all of us that were vested in Design Studio which they are phasing out. Will our Imagine carts be included in this program????? I hope so since the gypsy still isn't set up to accomodate this as they had originally promised.

  16. Is Provo Craft still going to support Design Studio? I prefer it to the Gypsy because I like having a bigger screen to work on. I played around with a Gypsy and found it difficult to see if I have things lined up perfectly. Anyway, I am looking forward to this new site.

  17. I think it's great for PC to provide a Design Studio type program, but now for free? Will it do everything? Is this a way to prevent those who want to use Sure Cuts a Lot (and others) from using it? Will it work exactly like or with DS? There are so many questions, I wish there was more information!
Thanks for the info, Joy, I don't use facebook, so your linking this for us is great!

  20. This sounds great. I am looking forward to using it. I love my Gypsy but I think I will be better able to see on the CraftRoom since it is on a larger screen.

  21. Thanks for the info!! Does this mean that we update only one time, as I have the original Cricut, Expression, CDS and Gypsy? It's getting to a point that it is difficult to update everything all at once.

  22. I must have missed this. I'm so freaking excited about this new program!!! Guess it's a good thing I've never broke down for a gypsy or the design studio yet, now I can do the same things for free. :) I can't wait until it comes out!!

  23. INTERESTING, i WILL HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT WHEN AVAILABLE.

  25. I am so looking forward to Cricut Craft Room. I have Ds but still haven't learned all the ins and outs of it. I have resisted getting a Gypsy after reading that some people have trouble with the small screen. From the preview that I saw Tammy give from CHA the other day this looks so much easier than DS.

  27. Can't wait to try CCR. I love my cricut but sometimes have a hard time with the small screen.

  28. Joy, thanks for answering the questions. I use DS and recently got a Gypsy which I haven't used yet but I think the CCR will surpass both of them. I love using the larger screen and don't mind having to have an internet connection however, I'm ready for everything to be WiFi. That is the main selling point for the cricut 2 for me. You do a great job of keeping us up to date.

  29. So if we link our cartridges to this then can we not link them to the gypsy or visa versa?

  30. Thanks for the info. I was a little worried that my Gypsy was going to be obsolete now, but it sounds like that is not the case. Do you know if there a Mac version of the Gypsy software yet?

  32. Joy, thanks sooooo much for posting this. There have been many questions and here are some answers!! WhoooHoooo!

I'm esp. interested/concerned about whether this on-line program will be able to handle the "multitude" that are going to be accessing it at the same time.

    Sooooo looking forward to it!

  35. Sounds great!!! I have been holding off buying a Gypsy...does this mean I would have no use for one. The only advantage I can see to having a Gypsy is to make my scrapbooking portable. Any thoughts about one over the other?
    Thanks!
