Boxes Made with the Cricut

I found out last night that there was a box font, which is a font where each letter corresponds to a box you can cut out on the Cricut. I heard about it on the Craft Edge Sure Cuts A Lot forum (go HERE to see the forum). I went out to where a lady was selling this font, for a suggested donation of $10, and purchased it, figuring it cost less than the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More cartridge (min. $30). There are over 52 different boxes in the font set, including pillow boxes, french fry boxes, purse boxes, heart boxes, tags, etc! There is a .pdf file of the font that you can preview before buying and in the preview, she has made up each box and labelled it, so you can really see what it looks like made - not just the mat layout, which frankly, sometimes it's hard to tell what that will turn out like! Anyway, I got my Sure Cuts A Lot software going (currently not blocked by Provocraft) and started playing around with making some little boxes. It was so easy! I sized most of them as large as I could fit onto the 12x12 mat and just pressed "cut"! The boxes above are the ones I made last night. The hardest by far to fold and figure out was the pink one with the flower on top. I made a few of those and never did quite score it correctly. But, boy it's cute. For the record, the pink purse box is 4"x2.5" on the bottom and is 2" tall where you would put a little treat. The handles and space add another 2.5" making the whole thing 5" tall. The bunny rabbit box is 4.5" square on the bottom and the height is 2.5", not counting the rabbit. The brown purse is the smallest box, with the bottom being 2.75"x3.75", with a height of 2" before the handles. And finally, the difficult, but cute, pink flower box is 2.5" square on the bottom and is 2.75" in height, although that may be a folding error (ha ha!). Below is a photo of the boxes that come in the font.

To buy the box font (WELL WORTH THE PRICE), go HERE. Her site needs some formatting but don't be worried. Soon after you do the paypal thing, she sends you a link to download the files. I think I received the link in less than 10 minutes! Enjoy!

Thanks so much for all your tips and this resources for boxes. I have SCAL and a couple of Cricuts so I can't wait to play. It was easy to order although it seemed the only way I could download them after she sent me a key was to create an account with Mediafire which was simple too.

Im having trouble opening them. I can only find a ttf. a pdf. and a doc. files. Which one do I open in scal and how. Thanks so much

What you do is load the .ttf files into your font manager. .ttf stands for Tru-type fonts and is the usual extension on font files. Then, once the boxes are loaded as a font, SCAL should be able to see it as a font and when you want to use it, just click on "boxes" font and there will be the boxes. The .pdf will show you which boxes are which key - for example maybe the pie shaped box is the letter "p" (not sure it is that exact letter but you get the idea). HTH!

Hi! I found your site by searching for a fry box template to cut since my local scrapbooking stores do not carry a fry box die cut! I'm excited to find that I can use my Cricut to cut out box templates. My question because I'm so new to using software with my Cricut - so new I've never done it - is - what 's the first step to do to get the box font? I'm assuming that I need to do more than just buy it and download it in order to run it on my Cricut? Thanks!

I was hoping to get an answer on how to use the Cricut with my computer and fry box die cuts. Still looking for anyone to respond to me. Thanks. Renee Galligher

Renee, I'm sorry I didn't answer earlier! I got busy! OK, so here's the story. There are two ways to make boxes....1) Buy the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge from Provocraft (ebay around $30 OR wait for Ms Black Friday sale which may be cheaper) OR 2) buy the Sure Cuts a Lot software (retail $50-$70) and load that on your computer and then buy the boxes font (shown above with link - $10). The Boxes font does have MORE boxes than the cartridge and the Sure Cuts A Lot software can do tons (like cut the fonts on your computer) so it really is a big decision. Let me know if this cleared it up at all.

I have a question that you may be able to clear up for me. I am having mixed feelings on which I should purchase. I'm between getting the Cricut Expressions or the Big Shot from Stampin Up. I wanted the Big Shot because I seen that you could do all of those cute little boxes but now I see that you can do the same with Cricut Expressions. However, does the CE score the box for you like the Big Shot so that all you have to do is simply fold? Thanks for any help on this matter.

I am sorry but I do not know what a .ttf file is
I just purchased this box font and it is a .zip file and I can only import and cut .svg files with my cricut expression and SCAL
can you help me

A .ttf file is the kind that all your fonts are on your computer. To load this, you need to first unzip it. Usually that should just happen by you clicking on it. Then , you need to load the .ttf file into your font library. Google "load new font on my computer" to see how to do it on your type of computer. I have a Mac so my process is probably different from yours. Once you do this, your box font will show up in your list of fonts when you open SCAL. It's basically the same process you go through everytime you add a new font. HTH!

I have a baby bug. Will the boxes font be worth it to me since I can only cut 6" wide>

HappyHappyJoyJoy said...

Not sure if it is worth it with the baby bug. Most bags take up the entire 12x12 mat. I would hold off until you get the Expression machine.
